I had plans for the Goetia Comic covering numerous Occult Personalities, Religious Icons, Philosophers, Scientists, Politicians, Cultures, Tarot, Runes, Time-Periods as well as various Genres from that of Westerns right through to Science Fiction with everything thrown in between etc, etc. Each Page of Painting usually stands on its own or at times to flow into interconnected story. There would of course be the underlying motif of the 'Goetia', which would be taken somewhere else quite other via the various 'Rebel' Female Entities whom are 'Rebelling' against a 'Brainwash' of ingrained perspective that permeates present Culture & is ongoing; while at the same time indicating that it be Woman whom runs the show, whose power is her Sexuality as 'Shakti' for a God is Not a God without his inspiring Shakti of Muse.
I have also utilised certain Archetypal themes of Subconscious stirrings in order to flesh out, such as the motif of the 'Genie' fused with the 'Succubus' of Dakini around which to weave a Magical technique of Dream-Engineering Consciously wrought Synchronicities; the Comic can of course be read purely for entertainment value, while others will no doubt be shocked by the Material to become Emotively-Reactive.
The Comic overall has a Shamanistic orientation, which utilises the Artistic technique of Photomontage in order to utilise various Cultural 'Symbols', which will thence generate Associative Correspondences. I could Draw each Page to paint, if I had the Time, let alone the Materials at hand, but I do not think it would have the same Impact whence becoming another avenue expression, which I am also exploring.
I guess the Pages could be theoretically utilised in an external Gallery setting if individually blown up as A0 size Prints, such as those on Canvas, which I could then Paint over in some cases; however, I would have to re-work the Images in High-Resolution so this could be achieved. If perceived of bigger picture, In such a setting one could also have Installations, Scultures & even Video being used, but this would require funding.
The Comic was initially created in order to formulate an idea in order to get a Comic Publisher interested in the work, which I would then have to Hand-Draw; however, most of the Comic Publishers are in America whose primary emphasis is the Superhero genre.
One will find the Comic writers 'Alan Moore' and 'Grant Morrison', whom are the big wheeler dealers in the Comic industry are very interested in the Occult, which inspires their work; for example Moore utilised the Goetia in its Classical context within his Graphic Novel Promethea, while Grant speaks quite openly about his Occult leanings who has been heavily influenced by the Ideas of Chaos Magick; both of whom are merely the tip of the iceburg for one also has Moebius Giraud, Druiillet & Bikal as well as numerous others who have touched many via their Comic artistry. One also has the big influence of Manga & Anime with its Occult themes, which has created a synthesis between varying mythologies.
One has the feeling that things are slowly transforming & mutating into another form. One also has the new growth of magickal wave on the tail end of the Chaos Magick fad being that of 'Occulture', which utilises Modern imagery in its techniques.
As for my self I do not neccessarily follow any particular path or movement as such apart from what one could construe as being Shamanistic, which is really more to with Trance induction & Dream Engineering Synchronicities via utilising certain techniques rather than that of a tradition.
I haven't had any of my work exhibited in a Gallery, although I did attempt such at one time, but I have found that in general Galleries let alone Publishers don't touch one with a barge pole until one has become 'known' amongst the public domain, whereby a Gallery or Publisher can thence gauge that they can make money out of ones hide.
As far as I can tell, one would have to get recognised first amidst a mass of people via some form of 'Advertising', which will then hopefully lead to either a Gallery or Publisher or both, then getting interested in ones work for they can see that they have a Market to capture. Of course I could be wrong about this... I'm always Learning!
The initial phase of Advertising is also that of Educating people, especially if ones ideas are not of the already established perspective; the problem however is that when things eventually kick off, everybody will try getting in on the act, which can be seen as a problem or that of the very thing one is seeking for then one has an... Art Movement!
When one looks at most Artists & Writers, let alone Musicians or even Actors etc they didn't make it by themselves alone for others were involved who became interested in their work for varying reasons, one of which is that of perceiving a future investment; some are Artists others are far more adept at Business who invariably have the right Contacts for Money equates with Information, which has its own Web.
A Business Man has to be somewhat of a Socialite while an Artist tends to be working away in their dingy Studio quite alone with ideas to capture onto Canvas or whatever Medium they are working in; some Artists are both, but one will find that most are not!
Galleries also like Artists with personality to back up their work... If Austin Osman Spare had kicked off interest while still alive then his work would have flourished, wherefore one would have had a rather eccentric personality gulping down wine at many a Gallery showing off his Occult work. One to wonder why this did not happen in hindsight!?
The Internet although open to all & somewhat perfect for an Artist or Writer to advertise their work does not generate too much feedback due to the mass of information crossing the Web. When one hard publishes ones work the feedback is Monetary whereby one can gauge who perceives ones work as being of value by their parting with hard earned cash. On the internet one may get a few letters in response or none at all because the respect for the medium of the internet is different than that of a Paper pulp Book, also ones public doesn't have to part with any cash for looking, of whatever reasoning that be their own.
The Goetia Comic will be added to in time; at the moment there is the potential for a gathering public interest to mount in regards to the works of Lewis Carroll, which will perhaps reach a peak later on this year due to the modern remake of Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton as well as the alternate version directed & acted in by Marilyn Manson who was a one time adept of Anton Le Vey. There will no doubt be numerous documentaries to follow & even that of a TV Series perhaps, while American McGee's Alice PC Game will probably be made into a movie too... Whatever the case Wyrd Aliese Samigina of Fourth Rune Psychonaut Shamanka will dance.
One of the reasons why I started up the Web-Site was to somehow set up a Business in order to thence generate Monetary revenue, which would be that of my Feed-Back...
The Site is in a sense that of an Art Gallery and a Magazine/Book/Comic all in one...
I am at the moment adding more pages to Aliese in Goetia W-underland, which seems to be taking on a life of its own; it is only one of many a project I have in mind.
I have also been looking into Animation, which may bare some fruit at some point...
Take Care
